Material: Bronze Diameter: 9.70 cm Weight: 553 g Sculptor / Artist: Kārlis Baumanis (3 May 1916, Rauna, Latvia – 8 January 2011) was a Latvian sculptor, graphic artist, and art historian. In 1947, he graduated from the Sculpture Department of the Latvian Academy of Arts. From 1946 to 1976, he taught at the University of Latvia and at the Riga Polytechnic Institute. Beginning in 1944, he regularly exhibited his works. His sculptural oeuvre includes portraits, figurative compositions, gravestones, and monumental works. He was one of the creators of the memorial ensemble at Rainis Cemetery. He also authored around 40 articles on art history and sculpture. In 1966, his monograph “Teodors Zaļkalns” was published. He became a member of the Latvian Artists’ Union in 1959 and was awarded the honorary title “Merited Artist of the Latvian SSR” in 1976.
